COMPUTER EXPERIMENTATION
The WINOPS software by Micheal Amirhosseini will be used to illustrate
further the concepts involved. You will be able to experiment
with different settings for a warehouse, with SOP policy and observe
their performances.
WinOPS Demo 1 demonstrates how to generate a simple model
and how to perform the analysis:
- Notice that the default values are already placed in the appropriate cells
for parameters. These are the parameter that the user can play with.
One can also play with the strategies (only SOP with/without zoning in this demo)
- It is not possible to perform the analysis yet. One has to press the
Accept Input button first.
- Select Perform Analysis from Run menu.
- Now the performance measure values are calculated through a certain
algorithm and displayed.
WinOPS Demo 2 demonstrates how to test different scenarios
and perform further analysis.
- First the number of aisles is changed to 18, to see the effects
on the system.
- The values are accepted and the analysis is performed.
- Results Grid is turned on to view the parameters for both experiments. Then it is turned off to return back to the original screen.
- It is possible to view the Results Graph to observe the comperative productivity values (in orders picked/hr). Notice that for this system the productivity decreased when the items were placed on 18 aisles rather than 20 aisles. What could be
the reasons?
- The graphs disappear when one double-clicks on them (or selects
Hide Results Graph.
