Wellington, New Zealand

Overlooking part of Wellington. The air here is so clear that pictures look fake or touched up - but that's exactly how it looks in real life. It's sort of the anti-Beijing in that sense. The bay in this photo was "protected" by a 3-gun underground fortress that we got to take a tour of on the Queen's birthday. It was cleverly designed, but I don't think 3 guns would've been enough to save the city from the Japanese. The island in the middle served as a POW camp during WWII when a German submarine had a mechanical failure and was forced to surface and surrender. The prisoners liked New Zealand so much that they all asked to stay when the war was over! Living in Atlanta, I miss the beach. Even visiting this one in the NZ winter was nice.

I got to stay with Sharon and Ross (my sister and my brother-in-law) for 2.5 weeks, and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, since I didn't bring a camera, you'll have to imagine what the rest of the time was like...

On to Singapore
