The topics covered will include:

  • Normal distribution
  • Parameter estimation
  • Confidence intervals
  • Hypotheses testing
  • Two-sample problem
  • Contingency Tables
  • Linear regression
  • Analysis of variance (ANOVA)

    Class meets: TTh 3:05-4:25, Instructional Center 211.

    Textbook:
    ``Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists'' by Anthony J. Hayter; PWS Publishing Company

    Prerequisites: College level Calculus and Linear Algebra class.

    Grading:

  • There will be roughly biweekly homework assignments. Homeworks will be graded on scale 0-1-2 (no homework submitted, submitted but not all problems solved-all problems solved).
  • Weekly quiz on Thursdays (two lowest scores will be dropped). No makeups.
  • Exams include a midterm (10/11/2001 in class) and a final (12/14/2001; 8:00-10:50). The exams will be closed-book. However, for the midterm, you are allowed to bring in two pages of notes, for the final, you are allowed to bring in four page notes.   • Distribution of points:
    Homework 10 %
    Quizzes 20 %
    Midterm 25 %
    Group Project 10 %
    Final 35 %

    Software: For the calculations in the course www-based free software WebStat by West and Ogden is recommended. Students should be able to use the copies of comercial software (Minitab, Matlab) installed in the ISyE students' computer lab.
