Bio

Joel Sokol is an associate professor in ISyE. He received a Ph.D. in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1999. His bachelor's degrees, including a B.S. in applied sciences in engineering and a B.A. in mathematics and computer science, are from Rutgers University, where he graduated first in his class. Dr. Sokol's research interests include operations research and its application in a wide variety of areas, from logistics, manufacturing, and network design to biology, social logistics, and sports modeling. Dr. Sokol's research has won the EURO Management Science Strategic Innovation Prize, and his LRMC method (predictive modeling for the NCAA basketball tournament) has been featured in the New York Times, CNN, and ESPN. Dr. Sokol is also a recipient of some of Georgia Tech's highest awards for teaching.
