ISyE 6340 G: Seminar on Global Supply Chains

Class meetings

Mondays and Wednesdays (and some Fridays) 10-11:30AM in the Supply Chain Engineering Classroom (Room 126 of the ISyE Main Building). Occasionally class will continue into the afternoon if we are on a distant site visit.

Check the class calendar often as it may be revised on short notice.

Instructor

Professor J. Bartholdi and P. Viehweg, Room 202 (within the Supply Chain and Logistics Institute)

Class

The class is organized around tours of facilities that play key roles in supply chains. A small team of students will be appointed leaders for each site visit (after the first). They will be responsible for preparing for the visit and for leading discussion of the site at a subsequent class meeting.

Additional class meetings will be devoted to seminars by industry professionals and by academic researchers.

What is expected

Each student is expected to attend every class (unless prior arrangements have been made with the instructors); to participate intensely in the tours and class discussions; and to remain current in supplementary reading.

It is very important that you be punctual for all events, but especially for tours, which will depart ruthlessly on schedule. The loading point for the bus will be the corner of Hemphill Ave. and 8th Street, in front of the Crecine Apartments.

Bring a notepad, pen, and camera. Dress for all tours is business casual. Many visits will be to industrial sites, which do not allow sandals or open-toed shoes.

Reading

You will be expected to keep current on the following reading, which will form the background for many class discussions.
