Behind the scenes: The Furedi - Hajnal conjecture

I will be talking about the Furedi-Hajnal conjecture, a problem in
pattern avoidance in extremal combinatorics.  The solution is
unusually simple once you see it, but it is not obvious where any of
the ideas came from.  I will try to go "behind the scenes" and show
the process (both successes and failures) that eventually led to a
solution.
