Dr. Judith Norback is the ISyE Director of Workplace and Academic Communication. Dr. Norback works with ISyE and other faculty to integrate important workplace communication skills into engineering courses. She also directs the ISyE Communication Program and coordinates workplace interviews, oversees Communication Lab activities, and provides presentation and writing instruction to ISyE senior design students.
Dr. Norback's expertise lies in identifying the communication skills required in jobs and building relevant curriculum. Her research interests are tied to curriculum development and include writing and presentation skills for undergraduates and teaching assistants. Her current research focuses on the workplace communication skills needed by practicing engineers.
Past research and curriculum development assignments have covered basic and communication skills for the U.S. Department of Labor, the National Skills Standards Board, and a number of universities. Dr. Norback has also conducted projects for the U.S. Department of labor, the education consortium for the American steel industry, the National Skill Standards Board, and several universities.
Dr. Norback came to Georgia Tech from the Center for Skills Enhancement, Inc. in Princeton, New Jersey, which she founded and directed for eight years. She previously held the positions of Research Scientist at the Educational Testing Service and Lecturer at Rutgers University. She is member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science and the International Reading Association. She has also authored six books and numerous articles.
Dr. Norback holds PhD and MA degrees in Psychology from Princeton University and a BA in Psychology magna cum laude from Cornell University.
