The School of Industrial and Systems Engineering includes a Ph.D. program for Applied Statistics, with emphasis on the use of statistics in a technological environment. In the Applied Statistics Program, a student may specialize in a specific area of application such as manufacturing statistics, reliability and quality control, simulation, or more traditional areas of statistical research. Students in this program study the mathematics needed for advanced work in probability and statistics as well as necessary advanced work in an application area. Graduates typically go on to careers on university facilities in statistics, engineering, or management, as well as in industry or government positions as researchers or consultants.

The Ph.D. program of study is determined by the student and his or her advisor. The M.S. program of study is outlined elsewhere in this site. A typical program of study will include the courses required for the M.S. Statistics degree and additional theoretical and advanced statistical courses. The program should also include some courses in stochastics and optimization methodology, as well as courses in engineering applications areas where there are related statistical issues.

Georgia Tech's statistics program emphasizes applications for engineering and the physical sciences. Current research interestes of the faculty are listed on the faculty page.
