CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The 2003 INFORMS Doctoral Colloquium will be held on October 17-18
in Atlanta, GA immediately preceding the INFORMS Annual Meeting. All Ph.D.
granting programs in operations research and management science are invited
to nominate students for participation.
The Doctoral Colloquium is comprised of two distinct tracks (Academic and
Industry). The primary objective of the colloquium is to promote interaction
between doctoral students and professionals in operations research and management
science. Approximately 20 professional participants will make presentations
and lead discussions on issues and technical areas related to academic and
industrial careers in operations research and management science.
To be eligible for nomination, a student:
• Should have completed basic coursework, and initiated research;
• Should be within two years, but not less than six months, from completing
all degree requirements;
• Must have excellent potential for contributing to operations research
and/ or management science;
• Must have good communication skills;
• Must be a member of INFORMS or have applied for membership at the time
of the nomination;
• Must never have attended the INFORMS Doctoral Colloquium before.
A complete nomination by the department must include:
• The student’s transcript at the nominating institution;
• A letter of recommendation from the department chair;
•
A one-page statement of purpose from the student including description of
student’s
research and career interests and dissertation topic;
• The U.S. mail and e-mail address, as well as the phone number of the
student.
• Mention whether the nomination is for the academic or for the industry track.
Nominating departments are expected to pay for travel expenses and hotel accommodations.
INFORMS will pay for all administrative and meal costs associated with the
colloquium and arrange for low-cost hotel accommodations beginning Friday night
through the duration of the INFORMS conference. A nominating school or department
may choose to nominate up to a maximum of three students. The registration
fee will be waived for the first student; will be $100 dollars for the second
student and $200 for the third student. Since participation in this colloquium
is limited to 60 students, a department or school with more than one nomination
should specify the order in which the students should be considered for participation.
